Donna Ignacio Mapps was born to Filipino parents and grew up in the Philippines.  She moved to Canada in 2007 through their Skilled Worker Immigration Program.  She lived and worked in Canada for 4 years.  While she lived in Canada, she always remembered her country, Philippines.  The challenges of living in the Philippines may have been the reason why she thought of settling in Canada but her heart was always to uplift her country. Her life’s exploration in Canada was very interesting and gave her a way to meet a lot of new friends from all over the world. Her passion for Filipino culture and her native language has always been a known personality trait of her’s.  She always wanted to be known as a Filipino even living abroad.  She is grateful to have had the chance to live in Canada.  That time gave her better opportunities to share her love for her own culture and language.

She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science at Emilio Aguinaldo College, Manila, Philippines and a Computer Programming course at Systems Technology Institute, Taft, Manila.  While she was in the campus ministry, she got involved with Hope Worldwide Philippines.  One of the projects of Hope Worldwide at that time was to feed and care for the hungry people in the Smokey Mountain areas of Manila.  She had a very memorable experience just helping and listening to the people who live in the area.  She worked for Systems Technology Institute, Laoag City branch as Computer Head Facilitator in 1997 and became the Academic Head of the same school branch from 1998-2001.  She continued her involvement with HOPE Worldwide, Laoag City and had served some families of Ilocos Norte.  STI, her employer at that time was a sponsor of many projects including the use of a Network  Tabulation System for a beauty pageant in Laoag City.  She developed a Tabulation System used for the Search for Ms. ABC, Laoag City, that was first implemented in 1998.  That system went on to be used the following years by many other Beauty Pageants held in Ilocos Norte.  She had an opportunity to work for Northwestern University,  Laoag City from 2001-2007 as Instructor/Professor for the College of Computer Science.  She was involved in various projects like training faculty members of Northwestern University and some teachers of Ilocos Norte on the use of computers and MSOffice at work.  She earned her Master’s degree in Engineering Management in the same school while she was working.

She moved to the United States in 2011.   In her spare time, she loves to understand and learn more the English language and Western Culture.  As a result, she earned a Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (Master TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Master TESOL), and a Certificate in Using Technology in Teaching English Specialist from a Language School.  It is always her goal to communicate better with people regardless of their Nationality to introduce the Filipino Language and Culture using English as the medium of language. Her life exploration, while she lives in the United States is immense and she is proud to have been able to meet a lot of people who became her friends and relatives. As she continues her life journey with her family and supportive friends, she wants to give her service to the people all over the world who would like to learn more about the Filipino culture and language.
